How does Light bend?

When predicting how light would bend,  they used the sun to calculate the bending from a distant source.  Einstein predicted that it would be approximately twice what they expected from gravity alone.

In layman’s terms what is the extra factor?

Some people claim that it is a change in time and space.  Why would time and space change just because gravity changes?   Could it be that we do not understand what light is?  Could light contain more mass than we think?

This challenges the idea of dark matter.  If light is actually holding our universe together, it is NOT dark matter.  It is a characteristic of light.

Are we using light as our measuring stick, and then complaining because our measuring stick changes the things we are looking at?
